Volunteer Opportunities

There are many ways you can get involved! Some opportunities are weekly, while others are on a less frequent basis. Check out the list below for some ways or call us to discuss your ideas!

Mentors/Tutors – The mentor meets with their protégé in person once a week or every other week for about 1.5 hrs. They meet at the center in Paterson on the day and time of their choosing, or they can come in on Wednesday mornings when there is group mentoring (9:30 – 12:30). We hope that friendships will develop where you can influence their future and share Christ.

Is there training for this role? Yes, there is a half-day training called Bridges out of Poverty. This training will help you understand what it’s like to come from a poverty background and teach you what you need to know to develop a relationship of mutual respect and influence.

Material Support – The women we serve receive material support every other week in the form of diapers, wipes, baby clothes, toiletries, and laundry detergent. This volunteer role serves every other week for 3 hours and is responsible for tracking and distributing the material items.

Event Support – Volunteers needed to help plan and execute events such as “Family Fun” events, various types of fundraisers, and graduations. Choose to help in one or more of these events.

Child Care – Care for newborns through preschool-age children while their moms participate in our workshops and mentoring program.

Workshop Facilitators – We need volunteers who would like to be trained to facilitate our workshops. The time commitment for the workshops varies, here is a list of our workshops:

Getting Ahead – Requires the most commitment, the class meets twice a week for 2 ½ hours for ten weeks.

Understanding Dad – A unique workshop that helps mothers improve the relationships they have with fathers, for the benefit of their children. The class meets once a week for 2 hours for nine weeks.

Money and Me – Financial Literacy class specifically designed for people in poverty, meets once a week for 1 ½ hours for six weeks.

Mom as Gatekeeper – This workshop helps break down barriers between mothers and fathers by addressing what is known as Maternal Gatekeeping – when a mother’s beliefs about a father, and her behaviors, hinder a father’s involvement. The workshop facilitates helpful discussions and efforts towards co-parenting, it meets weekly for 2 hours for three weeks.

Prayer Partners – We need friends who will commit to regularly praying for the center’s needs, our staff, and those we serve.
